The purpose of this webinar is to discuss the current best evidence that supports the use of custom and pre-fabricated foot orthoses. In order to interpret the evidence, this webinar will review the reasons for prescribing foot orthoses, what the current research tells us about the typical pattern of foot motion during walking, the predominant theory proposed to explain how foot orthoses work, and differences in treatment outcomes for chronic plantar heel pain and anterior knee pain as a result of using foot orthoses. Finally, the advantages and disadvantages of using custom versus pre-fabricated foot orthoses will be reviewed.

At the completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. List and describe the functions of foot orthoses.
  2. Discuss four characteristics of the typical pattern of foot motion during walking.
  3. State one theory that has been proposed to explain how foot orthoses work.
  4. Discuss the current evidence that supports the use of pre-fabricated vs. custom foot orthoses.
  5. Describe difference in outcomes when using foot orthoses for chronic plantar heel pain and anterior knee pain.
  6. List two advantages and disadvantages of using custom versus pre-fabricated foot orthoses.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.
